THE BEAUTY OF SLEEP
Most people would agree that there's nothing better than a good night's sleep. Stressful day at the office? Long hours doing yard work and housework? All this can be repaired with a nice, long slumber. You awake the next day feeling calm, refreshed and ready for anything - the stresses, aches and pains of the previous day are long gone.
There have been thousands of sleep studies performed over the years, but we still aren't exactly sure why we sleep. The old joke is that the function of sleep is to cure sleepiness. Prior to 1951, scientists thought bedtime was merely shutdown mode for both the body and mind. It wasn't until a graduate student at the University of Chicago hooked his son to a brain wave machine during sleep that we learned about rapid eye movement (REM) -- sleep periods when the brain speeds up its activity. During REM sleep our eyes twitch, our limbs and facial muscles may move and we dream.
Even though we aren't exactly sure why we sleep, we know that we have to -- all mammals sleep. In fact, a lab rat that would normally live for three years will die in about three weeks without sleep. We know that when we get too little sleep we feel lethargic, sluggish and fuzzy-headed. Long-term sleep deprivation has such an impact on the human psyche that it's been used as a form of torture by virtually every military in existence.

1. IF YOU WERE DESIGNING A HUMAN- WHY DESIGN HIM IN A WAY THAT MAKES HIM COMPLETELY USELESS FOR 1/3RD OF HIS DAY?
1. I think this is the most beneficial way for a human to be. If man didn't get any sleep, they would be very cranky and always be sluggish. This way spending 1/3 of our day sleeping is ok, this way we can review what we did that day, and go over it to improve the next day. It is not wasting the whole day. This way 1/3 of you day you can relax and 2/3 of your are normal and do you normal routine.
ReplyDelete2.I think G-d made us this way so 1/3 of our day can be relaxing and think about what did that day and improve. Sleeping can make you feel more awake when you wake up, this way you can be extra motivated and eager to learn and follow the mitzvot.

the reason i would design a human to work and be active for 2/3 of the day is because eventually everyone needs a break. even if you are not sleeping, you just need a break from what you are doing and by us sleeping is a break. We aren't robots and we want time out from things so we go to sleep. When we sleep, were peaceful and are relaxed and when we wake up, we feel refreshed. if i was making a human, i wouldn't want them to constantly be working, they would want a break and time out from whatever they are doing. When we have long or stress full days, we just want to come home and in a way shut down and just stop everything your doing and go to sleep. Because everyone loves the feeling of just sleeping after being so tired.
ReplyDeleteI think g-d designed us this way was becuase he maybe thinks the same. that us as humans should at one point stop what were doing instead of just always doing work. Also, we got more mitzvoth by sleeping. we get to say brachot before we go to sleep and when we wake up. like shema and mode ani. and if you have a bad dream, you can say a brachia for that too. Before we go to sleep, we also think a lot about things, like what we did today and things that happened to us. Its our time of the day when we are by ourselves and just get to think, instead of just constantly up and running and never having time for yourself. Its where u can just feel relaxed and have no one bother u so your ready for a new day tomorrow.
I would design a human to be useful for 1/3 rd because when a human is tired and they don't feel good they would need to take a break at what ever they were doing or it would not turn out good. If the human did not get sleep they would not be able to accomplish what they were supposed to do. Human need sleep because they have need to be relaxed and have a fresh start for the next day. Sleep is a beautiful thing and we have to use it right.
ReplyDeleteI think God created us this way because we aren't like him and God can have no sleep without being tired. For humans they need sleep to fresh up and be awake. God wants us to have sleep because he work really hard and we need to know what we have to do. In order, for us to be wake God gave us a prayer that we would say and it would start our day being happy and felling good that someone is watching us and wants us to have a good day.
1. I don't think we are doing nothing when we sleep, but letting ourselves relax for example, if you want to use a phone (electronic device) you have to re charge it to 100% to use it. In our case we need to recharge ourselfs to work one hundreds percent and be able to work how we are sopossed too. Sleep revives one and helps our body physically and mentally to work properly and our best.
ReplyDelete2. We're in this world to make ourselfs better people,if the world is perfect we can't perfect ourselfs that's why there's bad in this world. For us to beat the bad we need to work on ourselfs with full charge. When we sleep we refresh ourselfs and give us a new chance to work on ourselfs. Sleep is extremely precious for us in this world and we will take the gift of sleep and use it to out fullest.

ReplyDelete1. I would create a device that works at least 2/3 of the time because it will work better. By giving my device the opportunity to rest, it allows them to function the right way. Also if I had a device that worked all the time, I would not have the opportunity to do other things and maybe become addicted to this one item.
2. When you use a device that is used for technical purposes, you have to let it cool down and take a break otherwise it will die. For example, when you use phone it needs to be charged, otherwise you cannot use it. As humans, if we didnt have an opportunity to take a few hours to re-charge ourselves and be given the opportunity to rest, we would not function the same way.
I think that G-D created us this way because when you sleep, you get your energy back at it replenishs you for the day. Additionally, G-D needs his rest if I was creating a human, that is a lot of work so I would want rest.

1. I would probably create a human that would be active 2/3 of the day because at some point we need a break. Every human at some point needs to recharge. G-d didn't create us like robots, so therefore we need to stop sometimes and rest.
ReplyDelete2. G-d designed us this way because he didn't want to create boring robots who are always awake, he wanted us to sleep so therefore we wake up recharged and ready to learn and do other things, that g-d wants us to do.
1.If I were to create a human I would include sleep. It helps recharge ourselves after a full day. Without it we would not be able to function correctly. it is vital that we be able to sleep. We need sleep to perform activities throughout the day without it we would be mindless
ReplyDelete2.G-d designed us this way so that we would appreciate him and thank him. Sleeping recharges us and without it we would not be able to learn or perform other activities to honor G-d.
